New year, new plans

Start this second half of the season by updating your cash flow budget or plan.

It is easy to create a cashflow budget for the upcoming season, get caught up in calving, mating, cropping, etc, and not monitor or update your plans.

Use the energy of the New Year to evaluate your budget and even think about next season. What is not going to plan? What do you want to do differently? What do you need to do next season? Do you need to invest in technology or people? Buy cows/sell cows? Test cows (A2)? Do you want to change cropping or grazing? Now is the time to do a bit of thinking so your energy goes in the direction you want to go.

If you plan your tasks with a diary (paper or electronic) make updating your plan a monthly task. Creating a routine takes a bit of effort the first few times, but before you know it it will just be part of what you do. For clarity of mind and a change of scenery, you may want to make this a monthly lunch or coffee date with your (business) partner. Or even go to a favorite river or hill spot to contemplate.

Experience has told me evaluating or building a plan is much easier when answering questions that break it down into small chunks.

This has inspired me to create a template for updating a cash flow budget or plan. Watch this space!
